You may be wondering, how can you keep your dog cool when you bring him outside? Here are a couple tips and tricks from us!

Stay Hydrated
This one may seem obvious, but just like it’s important that you stay hydrated during the heat, it’s important your dog does too! Make sure to bring along lots of water to drink.

Check the Pavement!
Place your bare hand or foot (whichever is more sensitive!) on the pavement for 10 seconds. If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for your dog! Keep your dog off the pavement and on the grass, or opt from booties to protect his feet (if it’s something that he is comfortable with!)

Try Water Play!
Whether it be a kiddie pool, a sprinkler, or a day at a dog friendly beach, try adding some water play into your schedule! Your dog might like the opportunity to cool down in the water, and if they do, it will be very cute to watch!

Try Some Frozen Treats!
While many companies are getting on board with the frozen dog treat trend now, it is still fun to make your own! Find some recipes online or just freeze some chicken broth in a large bowl with some toys and let them have fun trying to get them out (while they cool off!)

<![CDATA[Fun Spring Activities for You and Your Dog!]]>Wed, 15 May 2019 20:02:46 GMThttp://bridlewoodkennels.com/blog/fun-spring-activities-for-you-and-your-dogEaster Egg Hunt
Can you think of a better way to use up all those extra plastic eggs you have laying around? Fill them with treats and hide them around your yard! Do a test run inside, most dogs will figure out to gently bite them to open the eggs but some will need you to follow them around and give them a hand. If your dog has a really strong bite, you may want to opt out of the plastic eggs and just hide the treats themselves around the yard!

Walk Somewhere New
If you’re tired of the same old streets or trail you’re walking, your dog probably is too! Try exploring a new territory, whether it be a new neighborhood or a local trail you’ve never walked before. Your dog will love the unexpected sights and smells that come with a new place, and maybe you’ll be inspired by the change of scenery as well!

Build a Backyard Obstacle Course
Whether you go all out or keep it simple, your dog will love this new adventure! Build jumps, stick poles in the ground for them to weave throughout, or just grab a couple play tunnels. Use treats to encourage them along the way, and of course cheer them on! If you have kids, they my just want to try the obstacle course too!

Have a Dog Friendly Picnic
Choose your favorite spot on a hill or in a field (or in your own backyard) and bring along some yummy treats! Things like chicken, cheese, and sweet potato are fun picnic foods that you and your dog can both enjoy!

Have a Taste Test
Is your dog a picky eater? Or will they eat everything under the sun? Try giving them some new foods they have never had, to see their reactions. Some fun ideas: carrots, peanut butter, cucumber, zucchini, banana, blueberries, and yogurt but there are many more! Be sure to do your research before giving your dog a food they’ve never had, you may be surprised at what isn’t safe! Try videotaping your dog trying new things, you might just catch the precious moment your dog discovers their new favorite (or least favorite) treat!]]>

Meet Lotus, our six year old Savannah cat! While she doesn't sport the usual coat like our other Savannahs (although all her babies do), she certainly has the wilderness in her heart. She is very playful and loves to catch anything she can get her paws on! Despite her wild side, she can also be a cuddle bug (when she wants to). Some days you can find her hanging out in the office with us, lounging on keyboards and ensuring that our attention is where it should be (on her!)

<![CDATA[Bridlewood Holiday Traditions]]>Mon, 10 Dec 2018 18:00:00 GMThttp://bridlewoodkennels.com/blog/bridlewood-holiday-traditionsIt’s that time of year again; the time of cats knocking over trees and menorahs, of dogs begging for their share of holiday dinner, of cold paws, and frolicking in the snow. It’s the holiday season and here at Camp Bridlewood, we love to celebrate with our pets! Our owners and employees all have their own traditions with their animals this time of year, and we thought it would be nice to spread some holiday cheer by sharing these with you!
In Abby’s home lives Linus, a daschund. They celebrate with a candy cane shaped dog bone and a cute little sweater and socks!
Tori likes to celebrate with her cat, Aesop, by getting him a stocking full of fun treats and toys (and, you know, tying up the Christmas tree so he might not knock it over).
Eddie likes to celebrate with his dog Herman by getting him some presents (like a bone) and treats.
Courtney like to celebrate with her cats; Princess, Ash, and Sonic, by filling their fish shaped stockings with different toys and treats.
Dale and Bill (our owners) like to spend their Christmas morning opening presents with their grandkids and their Savannah cats (especially the kittens!) and listening to their parrot, Al, mimic Christmas carols.

<![CDATA[Bridlewood residents: Meet Al!]]>Fri, 16 Nov 2018 16:06:51 GMThttp://bridlewoodkennels.com/blog/bridlewood-residents-meet-al
Meet Al, our 18 year old macaw. He loves talking, singing, whistling, and screaming (unless the weather is bad, then he doesn’t want to chat). His favorite phrases are “Hi, I’m Al”, “Pretty bird”, “What’s up?”, and the occasional screech to scare whoever is walking by, but he has many other words and phrases in addition to this. He also likes to mimic people's words and voice patterns (especially when they answer the phone)!
Al likes to start each day with a muffin.

<![CDATA[Four Thanksgiving treats for your pets!]]>Fri, 09 Nov 2018 17:44:14 GMThttp://bridlewoodkennels.com/blog/four-thanksgiving-treats-for-your-petsWe’ve all been there, you’re sitting at the thanksgiving table only to look down and see those oh so precious begging eyes peering up at you. How can you say no? I mean, it’s Thanksgiving after all, and you are thankful for your pet. But what is safe for them to eat?

Sweet Potato
Sweet potatoes are a healthy and fun snack for dogs! It is great for their digestive health and provides valuable vitamins! Cats can have sweet potatoes as well, but it can sometimes upset their stomachs if they eat large amounts. Just be careful of any spices or topping that the sweet potato could contain!

Turkey
The most famous part of Thanksgiving is also a great treat for your pets! Just be sure not to give them any skin (or any other part of the turkey that may have seasoning on it). It is known to help dogs build muscle but Tryptophan can make them sleepy (just like it does us)! So a family nap time may be in session!

Pumpkin
This may be more of a before dinner treat. While you are cooking your pie, slipping a little unspiced pumpkin puree into your dogs or cats bowls is great for their digestive health! Most dogs naturally love pumpkin (and some cats too)!

Green Beans
Another pre-meal treat! Since they can't have onion or garlic, most green bean dishes are out once they are cooked, but if your dog or cat likes the taste of raw green beans why not sneak them one or two while you prep? It's a good source of iron and maybe the kids will be inspired to eat them too! (We can dream, right?)
