We’ve all been there, you’re sitting at the thanksgiving table only to look down and see those oh so precious begging eyes peering up at you. How can you say no? I mean, it’s Thanksgiving after all, and you are thankful for your pet. But what is safe for them to eat?
Sweet Potato Sweet potatoes are a healthy and fun snack for dogs! It is great for their digestive health and provides valuable vitamins! Cats can have sweet potatoes as well, but it can sometimes upset their stomachs if they eat large amounts. Just be careful of any spices or topping that the sweet potato could contain! Turkey The most famous part of Thanksgiving is also a great treat for your pets! Just be sure not to give them any skin (or any other part of the turkey that may have seasoning on it). It is known to help dogs build muscle but Tryptophan can make them sleepy (just like it does us)! So a family nap time may be in session! Pumpkin This may be more of a before dinner treat. While you are cooking your pie, slipping a little unspiced pumpkin puree into your dogs or cats bowls is great for their digestive health! Most dogs naturally love pumpkin (and some cats too)! Green Beans Another pre-meal treat! Since they can't have onion or garlic, most green bean dishes are out once they are cooked, but if your dog or cat likes the taste of raw green beans why not sneak them one or two while you prep? It's a good source of iron and maybe the kids will be inspired to eat them too! (We can dream, right?)
